"Modern French Church Music" including the first International recording of Jean LANGLAIS' "Messe Solennelle" by ARGO (1971)

In 2017, Decca releases Box set of George Guest recordings of St John"s College Choir in 42 discs (Catalogue n° 4832446, label ARGO). CD 21 contains, between other works (Duruflé, Messiaen, Poulenc, Fauré)) the Jean LANGLAIS' "Messe Solennelle" first international recording by ARGO.

It is a tribute to George Guest who conducted this famous choir during 40 years (1951-1991), bringing the French Choral to English choirs.

Langlais himself, commenting this recording (O Sacrum convivium) where the organ is played by Stephen Cleobury (1971) said: "I admire everything, the style, the tempi, the voices, the organist and the conductor. Let me tell you of my deepest gratitude and admiration".
